In Leif's 2nd interview with Thomas James from EFII, he mentioned "the old guys" and taking some of their old drawings and "deciphering them to figure out why they were so damn good." I laughed out loud when I heard that because I did the same thing. These are some drawings from my "old guys" at The Artbunch. Hopefully one day I can draw like this.

  1. Good lord, Kristen - that's some serious drawing skills! Thanks so much for sharing these with the group... do you have a name (or names) for whomever it was that drew these?

  2. I assume that Tak Murakami and Jay Fisher each had a hand in these frames. They're both still going strong producing dynamite work for Poison Pencil in Chicago- http://www.poisonpencil.com/work/index.htm

  3. Jason: That's absolutely right, Jay Fisher, Phill Babb, and Jerry Salinas.
They're some of the best artists in the business, these guys are 60+ and still going strong.

  4. Yeah- and in Jay and Tak's case 70+ (plus!)
It's funny, Kristen-- I was up at Poison Pencil just the other day and showed Mike Fisher your previous post and he was singing your praises while I was telling him how I'd like to do a post on Tak and Jay (and Phil, for that matter-- I just don't see him as often). Now, you've beaten me to it! I'm still thinking about giving the veterans questionnaires to fill out as I doubt Jay will actually ever get around to writing that book on boarding he's mused about once or twice.
Mike says "hi", by the way...

  5. Jason; Thanks for your enthusiasm - for commenting - and for thinking about doing a post about these great older artists you and Kristen are mentioning. Don't be shy - by all means, let me know if you want to do that post. I've added you to the artist link list and will gladly send you a guest author invite - just drop me a line when you're ready to post! :^)

  6. Jason: You should definitley do another post on Tak and Jay, I miss seeing their work. If Jay Fisher wrote a book on storyboard art, I would be first in line to buy it. Please give Mike, Sara, and the crew my love, I still need to come up there and check it out. Hope you guys are stayin busy!
Leif: Thanks for providing a forum for us to converse like this.
